Isn’t the point of social media to be able to connect and listen to people who are beyond or outside the group that is defined by your existing relationships, blood ties, marriages, workplace, and whatever assorted dark pacts?
That is, having the choice of who to pay attention to, who to connect with. Forming new connections that are meaningful and no less important than the accidents of geography, circumstances or blood.
Isn’t the strength of social media that it allows us to discover, create and maintain connections with people we don’t see or routinely contact, or indeed that we have never seen?
Life is made rich by its connections. It is nourished by the people whom we enrich and who enrich us in turn. Limiting life’s richness to bonds of blood, of marriage, and of geography just impoverishes us.

Think for yourselves! First time commenters will wind-up in the moderation queue and your comment won't appear right away. Ditto for anything that gets flagged by the anti-spam rules.
I think it is. That’s partially why I refuse to use mute, ignore, and block lists except for in extreme cases. (^_^)y
