Forget Project Skylight and Display Names. There may be another reason why Second Life signups might have had a short term spike for a few days without much corresponding increase in actual usage.

Swagbucks.

Linden Lab’s used Swagbucks at least once before – though for the life of me, I cannot recall quite when – and it’s just happened again: Promo site, Swagbucks, had an offer for completing “valid registration and email confirmation” for Second Life. Do that, and you got 22 Swagbucks, whether or not you ever used that account.
