Come Friday, Philip Rosedale and Bob Komin are going to have an inworld meeting/Q&A session in Second Life to “open up the conversation with the community about our upcoming plans around the development and future of Second Life.”

Being that we’ve just hit the anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act, I’m once again led to wonder why Linden Lab fails to handle important discussions in text, rather than voice. Steampunkerie, “Melbourne’s Steampunk Night-Club” is described as a place where steampunks of all stripes can come out, show off their pretties, converse, meet like minded folk, listen to pleasant and inspirational tunes, enjoy a tipple and generally make merry. And they’re having a soirée on Saturday, 20 June. Tickets are limited, and those wishing to attend should apply the appropriate aetheric coordinates to Mister Berners-Lee’s electro-tele-perceptron, with some dispatch. Well, I’ve turned down my fourth invitation to speak about virtual worlds and Second Life at a conference this year. Crazy that the fact that I can’t be there in the flesh is a barrier to participating in a conference about virtual worlds. No keynote for you, sorry. I’m not kidding about this, you know. If you want to be the organiser of Second Life’s fourth Anniversary, you really need to start getting … you know … organised. Soon. There’s a lot of work, and a lot of preliminaries that you really need to get sorted out months in advance, otherwise it just makes for more work and poor results. Who is up for it? How about someone who didn’t appreciate the way I did it last year? Anyone? Technorati tags: second life, fourth anniversary
I’ve started dissecting and summarising the court filings over on SL Insider. I’ll be posting one each day, until we’re caught up with the documents. Thankfully, I’ve got these written up in advance and automatically scheduled (most of my stuff is right now), because my condition still isn’t very good at the moment. Second Life’s Fourth Anniversary comes up on Saturday 23 June, 2007. Now, I organised the last one, and I’ve got a fair appreciation of the amount of work involved. This one will be more work. If you want to organise the fourth anniversary, you should start thinking about it now. And say something so that people know you’re the go-to girl – if you don’t publicise the heck out of it way in advance, nobody will know, you might end up working cross-purposes with someone else, and the whole thing will flop. If I don’t hear that anyone’s doing something about it by the end of January, I’ll think about doing it myself again, but don’t count on that, okay? And don’t forget to tell Linden Lab what you’ve got planned. They need a lot of advance notice for anything you’ll be asking for them to do or contribute. Email Torley. You want some advice? Ask. In deference to general educational principles the class itself was not held in pirate talk. ![]() Some folks say there’s no such thing as bad press. I’ve never really believed that – I’m more inclined to believe that the Court of Public Opinion can be exceptionally harsh. Trial by Media is also generally accepted as being relatively terminal. However… There’s dozens of web-media articles on the SL security breach, plus articles in print media such as newspapers and tech magazines; TV spots on the news, and radio, even. You’d think data exposure on that scale would put people off. Instead, yesterday…Record number of signups. 16,610 in 24 hours. I guess the awareness outweighs the negativity. Imagine that. |
