Once upon a time, I thought the term was quirky. That Linden Lab’s use was little offbeat, but that it had its own sort of comforting charm.

These days, I’m not so sure about it. Actually, it increasingly raises my hackles when the Lab uses it, and I’m not actually quite sure I can pin down quite why that is. It’s an uncomfortable feeling, like I’ve been somehow … commoditized.

I caught myself today grimacing whenever I saw the term in a Second Life context, and thought that was more than a little peculiar.

Am I the only one bugged by the word? It’s okay if I am, but I’m now quite curious about what the rest of you think. Like it? Loathe it? Ambivalent? Why?
