The US FTC’s Do Not Call programme now sports more than 200 million US phone numbers.

That’s a pretty interesting figure. What I was really curious about when I heard it was how many phones there were, so that I could get an idea of the percentage of the total that the Do Not Call list represented.

The best I could turn up was that – according to the US census bureau – there were 103 million fixed-line telephones in the USA in the year 2000. Only half of the total number of numbers (fixed and mobile) that are on the list today, ten years later.
