No more Pony.
Missing from the Linden accounts list this week:
- Boston Linden [Blondin says: "Boston is an account that we set up for mixed media meetings and events"]
- Jeremy Linden [Jeremy just reappeared in the system. Might be getting some flaky response from the grid databases today]
- Kaylee Linden
- Pony Linden
Anyone remember Pony Linden? Pony Linden was a bot (in the sim of Morris) who was scripted to be able to be ridden by Second Life users. Pony largely vanished from the main grid during 2006. When Ben Linden departed announced his departure in a YouTube video in 2007, he was accompanied by Pony Linden.
Pony Linden briefly reappeared on the beta grid during a software test in April 2009.
There are 329 330 Linden accounts in the system today.
Trivia note: I’ve failed the Turing test more times than Pony Linden.

Commenters are to be civil, courteous and respectful to others, insofar as it is possible to do so. Beyond that, you're not required to agree with the opinions expressed by me or by others.
Think for yourselves! First time commenters will wind-up in the moderation queue and your comment won't appear right away. Ditto for anything that gets flagged by the anti-spam rules.
Jeremy Linden still shows in search for me.
And he’s just reappeared in the system for me also. Grid databases might be a bit flaky with the update.
Actually, another Linden took over the Pony Linden account after Ben left. I don’t think he did much with it though.
NOOOOOO the B*stards! They killed Pony!
I ran into pony once about a year ago or less at an academic discussion event where the subject of discussion was the use of alts. Pathfinder showed up as Pony. It was cool.
@Bubblesort, haha! I remember. I borrowed the Pony Linden account for that meeting. That was probably the last time Pony ever appeared inworld.
Boston Linden *was* probably pathfinder, before he left.
Pony lindens driver probably got sacked in the latest wave of housecleaning.
@Moobs, yep, I created the Boston Linden account while I was LL. I was using it for some mixed reality experiments I set up to help connect the Boston Lab with the other offices.
We had a big LCD TV and a webcam connected to a computer. The computer was logged in to SL using Boston Linden, who sat inworld in front of a couch at the Boston Lab’s office on one of the LindenWorld islands. The webcam was pointed at a couch in front of the TV and would send a live video feed to a screen inworld right behind Boston Linden. The audio out from SL was sent to the TV’s speakers, and there was a microphone sitting in RL on a coffee table in front of the RL couch.
Folks stopping by the Boston Lab’s inworld office would see the live video and could chat with people they saw on the video (we’d use the RL mic to answer them). And in the RL Boston Lab we could see on the big TV if there were any avatars visiting.
Not sure if I did a good job explaining the setup. But it was a fun mixed reality setup. I guess they got rid of it after I left LL.
