A surprise this week! Howard Look’s Linden account is absent from the database. I’ve checked several times over the last few hours in case there was a glitch with Linden Lab’s systems, as there was with Jeremy last week, but it does seem to be persistently gone.
Howard Look is… or perhaps it would be more appropriate to say was, Linden Lab’s Senior Vice President of Consumer Applications.
I’ve contacted Linden Lab for more information, but there hasn’t been any response as yet, so I’m just going with what I have. [See below. Linden Lab have now responded]
Look’s account is gone, and a Linden without an account is like a day without radiosity calculations. Unless Howard’s changed his name to Michele, I’m guessing that he didn’t have a chair when the music stopped.
Who is Howard Look? Well, here’s Linden Lab’s description of Look’s place in things:
Howard oversees the improvements to the Second Life experience and will develop new products and features that enhance the usability and overall customer experience of the Second Life Grid.
On the face of it, he would seem to be fast-easy-fun guy. Maybe he’s just no fun, I don’t know.
Laid off or left for another job? Signs point to a layoff. His account’s deleted, but everything else that visibly connects him to the company remains. So, fired or laid off would seem most likely. It’s the same pattern as laid-off staff, so that’s what I’d put my money on.
Didn’t Philip Rosedale say “No more layoffs” at SLCC?
The full list of changes this week goes like this:
- Howard Linden
- Shamiran Linden
- Space Linden
- Gavasso Linden
- Michele Linden
That leaves 329 Linden accounts in the database today, one fewer than last week.
Linden Lab responded to my query just a few minutes ago:
We can confirm that Howard Look has left Linden Lab to pursue new opportunities at another company.
