Display names launched with Second Life 2.3

If I had to describe Second Life’s ‘Display Names’ feature in a nutshell, it would be “a good idea, but very poorly designed.” You might describe it differently.

Nevertheless, Second Life viewer 2.3 was released a few minutes ago, and launches the new Display Names feature across the Second Life grid.

As previously indicated, I’m going to spend a bit of time as “Spartacus” – because I think it will be a bit of a hoot, and I’m weird like that. Be warned that this viewer limits the description field for classifieds to just 64 characters. It all seems a bit rushed.

New Features and Enhancements

• Display Names – With Display Names, all Residents now have the ability to use two names: a unique username and an optional Display Name that you can change on a weekly basis.
