Linden Lab is looking for someone to fill the role of Director of Global Communications – effectively to become the “main spokesperson for the company.” This job reports to the head of marketing, which would presently be Kim Salzer.

Overview:
Reporting to the Head of Marketing, the Director of Communications will own the global communication strategy and execution for Linden Lab. This person will work alongside executive leadership to craft the communication plan and manage all media relations for Linden Lab’s Direct to Consumer effort.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as main spokesperson for the company. Build relationships with key media, drive recognition of Linden Lab’s leadership in the virtual world space and progress on corporate goals.
  • Plan and execute a broad PR strategy for communicating Linden Lab’s industry leadership and rebranding efforts.
  • Responsible for increasing awareness and further establishing Second Life as the leading virtual world among consumers/potential and current users.
  • Work effectively with key stakeholders including the product, marketing and engineering functions to develop compelling narratives that articulate Second Life’s proposition for consumers globally.
  • Oversee all messaging, positioning and strategy related to initiative launches, issues, trends and insights.
  • Have a proven track record and rapport with leading consumer reporters, editors, and producers in national and local broadcast, top local and national dailies, and vertical consumer trades (gaming, consumer tech, etc.).
  • Build and nurture new relationships with reporters (broadcast, print and online), and community influencers.
  • Integrate public relations activities into overall marketing campaigns to support business objectives and collaborate with other cross-functional departments.
  • Leverage executives, experts and insights through traditional and social media channels, as well as at industry events.
  • Build and execute measurable PR campaigns that raise awareness and increase adoption for Second Life through media relations, speaking activities and creative initiatives.
  • Manage corporate blogging and Twitter social media outreach.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years PR experience, preferably in both the agency and in-house side.
  • Experience with all areas of PR and media relations. This includes product launches, corporate news distribution, major event support, creative executions, local news generation, broadcast, and social media activities.
  • PR agency and international business experience; in-house corporate communications experience a strong plus.
  • Excellent organizational, coordination and planning skills.
  • Media relations skills that have successfully influenced media coverage for a major brand.
  • Demonstrable experience developing creative PR campaigns for mainstream media in major global markets.
  • Experience using sound judgment in advising and managing issues.
  • Exceptionally strong writing skills.
